Grandpa's Teacher's License

Win, I got my license in 1972...that was 62 years after they received theirs. Mine was for 7 years. Now, I have a Masters degree and it is issued for 10 years. I have to renew it next year. This will be the first time that the State will do a complete background check on me and take my figure prints.

When did you get your license? Clayton Powell got a teacher's license in 1968 or 69, I think it was. He taught math. Grandpa would have been proud.

I got my license in 1964 and it certified me k-12 with my major being elementary education. Mine was a life certificate - I did BA plus 24, but I did do 33 hours at Seminary in Childhood Education - the district then only accepted 6 of those hours. Boys can going to class be expensive. Mike completed his Masters plus 48 and he also had Life Time. He taught Math, PE and coached football and wrestling. He put in 37 straight years - and I took a 25 year break to raise kids and take care of Mom. So I only retired with 17 years.

My first teaching job was teaching 3rd grade. My degrees are history, physical education and health. Nothing to prepare me for grade 3. all my work was secondary! Well, I had a mentor who taught 3rd grade across the hall. We met every afternoon and she prepared me for the next day. I was only 22 years old. But I was never "afraid" that I could not do anything.

Today I am not as brave. Everything frightens me. The world, the economy, it all makes me so sick..I try not to watch the news. i had a wonderful outlook with hope for the future as a youngster. After the filling of John, Martin, and Robert! My hopes died.

Still when I was young, we lived from paycheck to paycheck. I never had insurance until I graduated from College. I never thought a thing about it. I guess I trusted as Grandpa said to do. Now, I have seen the evil of the world...my trust had dindled. I am scared for my grandchildrens' lives...and even our own!

that should say KILLED. John Kennedy, Martin L. King, and Robert Kennedy.

My fingers and brain do not have a wire to connect them.
