Hey you all....not only can I not do pictures, but I am now having trouble making comments. Fleta, I was wondering if you found out anything about Grandma Powell's family in the Civil War...always, heard stories and wondered if there is any info.
this isn't fleta BUT...grandma told me that her grandma said i think this was ann cathern tate maples.. they were living above carrollton and an union patrol came by they wanted food all the family had was a sack of yellow meal witch they took and would not eat but they dumped it on the ground and peed on it so the family couldn't eat it. She also said they dug up the dirt in the smoke house where they had kept salt pork for years they boiled the dirt to get salt. One story we were told was that james gunther maples was in the war on souths side and he came home on leave and was ill and his son Reno maples went back in his fathers place. Grandma;s family were southern and believed the norther army was bad. In the civil war where the maples lived during the civil war was over run again and again by both armies on the road from springfield mo to fayettville arkansas.
