I am the staff writer for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources magazine Outdoor Illinois and, in doing research for an upcoming story about July 14, 1954 (the hottest temperature ever recorded in Illinois was at East St. Louis on that date), I stumbled across your blog entry recalling the passing of your grandfather during that heat wave.
