Working at Food Pantry

Tomorrow I will go down and work at our church food pantry.  Last Wednesday we set a new record...the folks can only come once a month, but the word is spreading that we have a food pantry.  This is about he 5th year, but the needs are so much greater.
My funny from Sam today is that he told his Mom that his favorite President is William Taft...when asked why...it is because he had a cow at the White House and he had a mustache.  I asked if he new that he got stuck in the White House bathtub and had to have 6 people pull him out...haven't had a response from him yet.
Kris is interviewing for a new job at UMB....I am on pins and needles.
Hope you all are staying some what cool...misery here!

Hot, Hot and more Hot

Haven't felt the best in this hot weather and have been doing as little as possible....however, I know how envious you all will be when you hear that I took all the grand boys to see the "Amazing Spiderman" movie on Sunday afternoon.  At matinee prices, I still dropped a pretty penny.

Now we all have to think about school supplies...this is where we try to help out....but, again $$$

Sam will head to Boy Scout camp the end of July...sure hope there is a break in the weather before then....love you all !

Anna Mae Again

Anna Mae will be 90 on June 6th....Yeah for dear, dear friends and their accomplishments!
Also, Lisa Reed had a baby girl...I will post details when I get pictures and complete information.

My Friend Anna Mae

On Saturday, June 2nd we went down to Arrow Rock Missouri to be with our friend Anna Mae for the opening of the African- American Museum.  She broke her pelvis on April 3rd and her husband passed away last month.  This was a big deal for her to make it to the opening.

Returned

It was fun to catch up with you all last night....I so seldom come to the big PC anymore.  I am a nut about FaceBook and spend way to much time on my ipad.  We have been down to the camper and I have the chiggers to prove it.  I did, however, learn an Amish remedy to prevent chiggers and ticks and I am going to use it next time down.  The Amish use Vicks Vapor rub behind their ears, on their wrists and around their ankles.  We used it on Sam the last night and it really worked for him...I don't know why I get so eaten up, but Mike says it is because they like "dark meat".
Things are calming down for us now that school is out....for the last 3 weeks of school Sam spent the night with us every night and then we took him to school....we have a much easier schedule now.
I'm going over to the gym this morning and work out while Mike is in water aerobics....I can walk a mile fast now....amazing what loosing 75 lbs. will do for you.
Love you all!

Another Dear Friend....

Sorry to be so long about posting....another dear friend passed away on Sunday.  We lovingly called him "Dr. Bob" and he was 93 years old and married to my dear, dear friend for 68 years.  He has been in Hospice for a little over a week.  His funeral is Wednesday and I have many responsibilities.  Also, tomorrow I am in charge of a memorial for a dear sweet sister in PEO.  She died peacfully in her sleep and she was 92 years old.  We don't weep for these sweet people, but no mater what...the loss hurts.
Dr. Bob was the father of my friend that passed away in 2008.  Sometimes...you just have to be quiet and reflective...I don't know what people do that do not have faith.

Now Searching

There are some times that I find aging difficult....like where did I put that?  I have torn up jack since I told Helen I had the Elvis 45 jacket...do you think I can find it????Noooo, but I know I have it...I will continue to look....arghhhhhh!!!!

I would be a big "NO"

Back down stairs....so a little blog.  That would be "NO" I am not voting for the Mormon or any Republican.  I am so angry with what the Republicans in charge are doing down in Jefferson City...arghhh!  Today they voted that Obama Care is unconstitutional....I sure would hate for anyone in Missouri to think about those in need....oh, I'm sorry...we don't have anyone in need in Missouri according to the Republicans.  Good Gosh....they are so "ME" centered!  I have a different thoughts...obviously.  I can't wait to get well enough to go work for our President....I don't think, however, we will ever turn our state back blue...Rush has too big a hold on this state.  I'm glad I can rant to you all....Love you all and hope your blood work is ok Helen.  By the way...Helen...do you have anything collected about "You Ain't Nothing But a Hounddog"...if you want, I have a 45 mint condition cover from when I was in Junior High...the record has been gone forever...but the jacket is really nice and I don't have a need for it.

Grandpa

I really don't remember what our Grandpa said, but I sure remember how upset and angry my Mom was.  Soooo then she began to believe she really was a year older...Aunt Winnie thought it was a hoot!
Mike says that they must have also found Aunt Winnie a few years later...because they looked almost like twins.
I may just have to solve all of this by writing to Little Rock for a birth certificate....but, that certainly will be a different day.
I have almost done too much...we went last night and toured the new Mormon Temple built not far from our home...after April 21st, no one except 'worthy" Mormons will be aloud in.  I will say...it was beautiful...Sam said to our tour guide, "well, I probably should not say this...but it sure looks like a hotel in here"...I thought our tour guide was going to collapse...Out of the mouths of Babes!

Fleta A.

I just know that my Mom had a real discussion with her Pop when she got to Heaven.  Have I not told you all that my Mom's real name is Trellamae?  Dad would not let her write for her real birth certificate...he tought it might mess up his retirement.  He was such a rule follower.
When Dad was getting ready to retire...Mom had to write for her birth certificate...and guess what???There is no birth certificate for Fleta Alleen Powell born Dec. 27, 1916 or 1917...so she had to use other docutments to prove her age.  Her high school diploma says, 1917, my birth certificate says 1917 and her marriage license says 1917...so that is what she went with.
Major argument...if that is what you ever could call a discussion with Grandpa....Mom said, "you always said I was born in 1917 and all of a sudden...you write in the Bible that I was born in 1916!
One night...Mom told Dad...I know why I don't have a birth certificate and yet all the others do...My real name is not Fleta Alleen, but it is Trellamae spelled as one name.
Dad said later, "there is no way your name is Trellamae....I would never have slept with a Trellamae" Uncle Truman did remember that when she was born...Grandma called her Trellamae.
We think Grandma changed Mom's name after G Grandma Powell left after taking care of Mom...GGrandma Powell kept referring to her as "Trell" and that made Grandma Powell angry...so she changed it to Fleta Alleen, but never officially changed the birth certificate...it's been a good family laugh for many years...Jim and Skip use to put "Trellamae" on her Christmas packages.
I just haven't had enough nerve to write for a birth certificate for Trellamae...it just our family treasure.

I made it downstairs to the main computer this afternoon.  I am doing ok and look forward to be released by the Dr. on the 16th...I just don't seem to be able to blog or read blogs from my ipad.
The kids are all coming over for Easter...the girls are bringing the food.  Hope this finds you all well and that you all have a blessed Easter.  I love you all!

Back from Camper

We just got back from the camper...opened and cleaned us mess all around us.  Our camper did not get any damage...but it hit only about 100 feet away.  We sure were blessed...across the road...42 campers were totally destroyed.  No one was hurt..one more day and the camp ground would have been full of opening day fishermen.  Leap year was a blessing this year!!

Well...I have made a decision...

I'm going to work with the Grassroots campaign for President Obama...the other side seems to be running only "boobies"....what is it all coming to??.  I at least have to give it a try...

Sam's 11th Birthday

We went to Cheesecake Factory over on the Plaza tonight for Sam's 11th Birthday...as you can see, giggles by everyone.  Boys will always be boys....
Mike and I bought Sam a 22 single shot rifle...he was very surprised this morning.  Then he said, "No wonder you wanted me to open this this morning...it would have been illegal to take the gun to the restaurant!"  I have so much make up on my face that I am surprised my face did not crack!

Happy Birthday Sam

I have st my surgery date for March 30. This way I can be first up...other choices would be at 1:30 PM and who knows when they would finally get around to me. It seems that this can happen when you lose all the weight I have lost...go figure :(
