Went to a second dear friends funeral today. It was awesome to celebrate Beverly's life and know that her body is finally free in Heaven. I'll tell you what...ALS is a terrible disease, but my friend handled it with faith, style and grace👼 RIP Bev!!!

Beautiful Day
This Saturday has been absolutely gorgeous! The weather man was just on and said that the temperature will drop 40 degrees tonight and be snowing in the morning...poor little Robin I saw today.
Mike drove up to Sqaw Creek and he saw Trumpeter swans, a few ducks and the Conservationist said the count of Snows and Blues were over 1 million. Mike said it was really awesome!

This Childhood Memory for Helen...
When I was very small, I would ride between my Mom and Dad on my Dad's motorcycle. Mom made me the cutest riding outfit....it was red bibbers with a white blouse. She also made me a red, button uner the chin matching cap. I really could not see much as we were riding because I was snuggled between the two of them. I always loved going for a ride with them and was always begging for us to go for a ride. One day Dad came home after a ride by himself....he didn't ever say why...but, the motorcycle was put up for sale. I even knew as a little kid, he must have had a close call and he was not going to take any chances with us riding again. Wish I could figure out like before....how to scan a picture for you all to see...my program is no longer user friendly!
More Childhood Memories...
I remember that sleeping was always difficult for me....I was always unable to just relax and go to sleep. It was always a struggle between my parents and me. I think I could have stayed up 24/7...I know it was hard on my Mom to always be with this super active kid all night and day. I so wanted brothers and sisters, but it was not God's plan for Mom not to have more kids....she had several miscarriages, but it didn't know that until I was married and had a miscarriage.
I would love it when Daddy came home after a long day of work....we would sit outside and visit with our wonderful neighbors while Mom fixed dinner....don't you just know that gave her a break for a little while. Then after dinner, Daddy, Mom and I would go in and listen to the radio. I really loved the Lone Ranger and Fibber Magee and Molly and we also listened to Jack Benny.
About once a month our neighbor Joe would go some place over town and come back with Polish Sausage....it was delicious....Daddy would slice it and peel it and we would eat it on saltine crackers. I was a horrible eater, but I would sure eat Polish Sasuage(kind of like a summer sausage). Joe would never tell Daddy where he went to buy the sausage....he said "Merk...you wouldn't want to eat it if you ever saw where I buy it! Dad didn't ask after that.
I/2is Here
Snowed last night....I took my "welcome Winter " sign down two weeks ago. Actually I would have really rather been down at Bennett for Opening Day yesterday.
When I was little I use to love playing the snow....did you ever wear bread sacks inside your galoshes so you could get them off on on easier? Everyone had the same black ones that went over your shoes...we put them on for morning and afternoon recess and you put your knitted mittens on the radiator to dry during class. I still can remember that smell, but snow use to be fun...somehow it didn't matter that your finger tips were numb and your toes were numb. Now they tell you all over the news that you probably have frost bite and you must go inside....I wonder how we ever survived!

Remembering
I have really enjoyed reading about things you remember about your childhood. I really can remember actually being in my crib. We lived in a duplex that we shared with an older couple that owned the duplex and I loved them dearly. They were a Polish couple that treated me really sweetly.
The duplex had a long enclosed porch on the front. We had a living room, a pretty decent size bedroom that we three shared, a kitchen that had enough room for a table with four chairs. We had a basement...I use to be scared to death to go downstairs!
Daddy worked for McDonnel aircraft and he made $27.00 a week(I found it recorded in a ledger book after he passed away).
Daddy had a horrible accident a day after I was born...he had all the fingers on his right hand cut off in a sheet metal machine and was in the hospital at the same time Mom was in the hospital. Aunt Winnie came up to St.Louis and really took care of all of us. She worked really hard to help Daddy regain the use of his right hand. I always admired the way he taught himself to use his left hand and he could fix anything mechanical. Dad was the first major accident that happened at McDonnell and eventually he was given a $2,000.00 settlement. He always said that that was the most money he had ever had at one time. There were some of the high ups at work that wanted Daddy to invest that money, but Daddy put it in a savings account and after my second grade year, Mom and Dad were able to use that money as a down payment on a house.

4:00....
It has snowed all day, but it a light snow. Not too much accumulation...thank goodness.
Mike and I got out this morning and went to a show....we saw Monument Men and we really enjoyed it...it was a part of WWII that I really was not very familiar with...thank goodness there were a group of seven dedicated men that saved so much of the art that Hitler stole....and for so many items they beat the Russians from plundering all of the art. the Americans returned the art to the rightful owners.
Cindy, Kris and Sam are still here with us...no word on when their house will be fixed.

What a Mess!
Thursday night a sewer line broke at Cindy and Kris's house...black water mess on all the lower level...that is where Sam's room is. I haven't seen the mess yet...but the three of them and their dog all moved in here. I'm just glad we have the room...no telling how long they will be living here...Kris went up today and he is just shocked at the things that have to be done. This is the type of work our son Paul oversee's...Thank goodness for his expertise!
